Clicker training is a powerful training method where desirable behaviors are marked and reinforced with a click of a clicker (a special noise-making tool) followed by a treat. Owning a deaf dog though creates challenges for this training method though since a deaf dog is unable to hear the click. The good news though is that deaf dogs can be trained using a visual marker versus an audible one. Many dog owners may get inventive here and uses flashes of lights. An ingenious invention worth mentioning is the "flicker" a special clicker that relies on light emitted by a keychain flashlight invented by dog trainer Jamie Popper.
